The lonliest cop in Phnom Penh?

Usually when you see traffic police in Phnom Penh, there are about 3 or 4 in a group. You hardly see just one working which made this photo a little unusual. Taken during a lull of mid-morning traffic on Street 130 just east of Central Market.

Prek Leap

Just a few miles over the Japanese friendship bridge, along Route 6, you will come across Prek Leap, a favorite weekend destination for Cambodians and expats looking to chill out for the afternoon at the one of the restaurants overlooking the Mekong.
There is a road that runs parallel that is a little secret for those who don’t want to deal with the manic traffic of the national road. The next picture comes from a jaunt on that small road to a great restaurant that serves big crabs, great steamed fish and other Cambodian delicacies.

Low tech security

One of the main factors in renting a place in Phnom Penh is how secure it is. Almost all the security measures are low tech but very effective. The flats in this country will have bars on the windows and doors and if you live on the second floor (first floor for non-Americans), you will have concertina wire or some type of enclosure to keep intruders out.
So if there is a zombie outbreak, Phnom Penh will be quite a safe city. Anyhoo, pictures were taken just outside my flat.

RCAF Market

Went this morning to the RCAF (Royal Cambodian Armed Forces) market where they sell all sorts of armed forces style paraphernalia. I ended up buying a boonie hat for general wear in the sun and Rick from the Post bought some army style pants. Quite cheap too.

Street food

One of the things I have noticed in the past 6 years of living in Cambodia is that Cambodians love to snack. That being said, there is always a snack cart around the corner to fill your stomach. So without any further delay.

Taken on the three block stroll from my flat to the Phnom Penh Post offices.

Development near Pochentong Airport

One of the impacts Phnom Penh has seen from the global recession as been a decline in the housing boom. This is apparent when you look around the developments around Pochentong Airport.
Charles Fox did a great photo spread in the Cambodia Daily about it a couple of weeks ago. If you haven’t seen it, you should check it out.
But you can check out the great illustration of the model housing advertised on the side of the road.

Best coffee in Phnom Penh

Taken in Russian Market before shopping for the upcoming holiday. Possibly the best coffee in Phnom Penh. I am still wired after drinking it 4 hours ago.

Psar Thmei Cyclo

Taken on a long day of errands in preparation for a trip to England and the Middle East in a week and a half. Took this snap with the Ricoh just outside the best coffee shop in Phnom Penh located just west of Psar Thmei.
