Messing with Nik Software

My wife and I currently on holiday in the UK and kicking back in our great rented flat in Brixton via AirBnB. In all honesty, I don’t know why anyone else doesn’t use this to travel. A huge living area, full-service kitchen and a big bedroom all within walking distance to the Tube for under $100 USD.

Fantastic.

Also, during the trip, I have been playing with the fantastic Nik Software Suite. Mainly HDR Efx Pro.

What I like about the HDR conversion using the Nik Software Suite is the amount of control given. What I don’t like about HDR iamges is that they look overly processed and don’t look realistic. Take for example, an image of the Ludlow Brewing Company truck I took while on the Ale Trail. A combination of 3 exposures bracketed at -2 and +2 using the Default setting.

Nicely balanced but I would like a bit more oomph in the sky so I decided to push it a bit by using the Strong setting.

Looks good but you can see a bit of haloing around the truck which is a problem with HDR photos. Now altered with the Realistic setting.

Now that’s what I want! The sky definitely pops and the haloing is controlled.

Well, that’s it. Am off to the largest Mall in Europe.

Brick Lane

Went to Brick Lane to check out their market. Alot more local as Camden seemed a bit too touristy for my tastes.

Random weaponry lying around

Whilst walking to a friends house to meet up for some dinner, we ran across an old World War II flack gun. A bit random but a nice opportunity to see how the Ricoh works for long exposure shots.

Bunhill fields cemetary

After having a great Vietnamese lunch in Bank, we got to walk around a nonconformist graveyard at Bunhill Fields.
From what I have read about the nonconformists, they were people who were tried for treason for talking out of turn against the church and state.
The headstone on the left is the grave of Thomas Roswell. Check out this wiki here.

Touristy stuff

One thing that I haven’t really done so far is blazed the tourist trail. We had a bit of time before lunch so got to check out the Tate Modern and walked around Parliament Square.

Tamil run store in Tooting

Sue and I have been staying in Tooting at a friends house. On our daily walk to the tube, we always walk past a Tamil run convenience store that has some of the best veg I have seen in this country. Though, whoever said that England has crap veggies was completely wrong as it has been all good.

Donuts in Camden

Sorry about the late post. Went to Camden yesterday to do a bit of sightseeing. Camden is known for its alternative shops but in all honesty, it looked like a larger, colder version of Hot Topic.
Though I have to give props to the Electric Ballroom for its music section.
Whilst walking through the outdoor market, I came across a shop that any American policeman would love.

Hackney with the brethren

Went to Hackney this afternoon to check out the Vietnamese community. So naturally, this means heading over to a restaurant to see how authentic the food is.
We ended up at Song Que which is a Zagat rated restaurant on Kingsland Road. Very nice. Had some mussels with black bean sauce, chili fried spare ribs and deep fried noodles with beef. Yum.
Its a good thing that we are walking like crazy or we would be gaining massive amounts of weight.

Went to the Borough weekend market today. Possibly the best market I have ever been to. A great foodies market, I had some great fun taking photos.
